Manchester City fires Manager Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini
After a disappointing season that saw them fail to compete for a league title, exit Champions League early and lose the FA Cup final, Manchester City have relieved Roberto Mancini of his duties.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak went out of his way to praise Mancini more than chairmen usually praise people they've just fired.

"He has done as he promised and delivered silverware and success, breaking the Club's 35-year trophy drought and securing the title in 2012. I would like to personally and publicly thank him for his dedication to the progress that he has overseen and for his support and continued friendship."

Brian Kidd, who is one of the most experienced assistant managers in England, will take over as interim boss for Manchester City's final two Premier League games, as well as their early season friendlies in the United States. Current Malaga boss Manuel Pelligrini has been linked to the City post, but there is no confirmation yet on Mancini's successor.
