Photos: Intense Fire Outbreak at Nairobi Airport

Activities have been temporarily crippled at the Nairobi airport after a huge fire broke out at Kenya's main airport. Flights have been cancelled and passengers evacuated thereby leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The fire started at the arrivals and immigration area. Fire fighters are working hard to put off the fire as its burning rate has become very intense. Good news is that there are no reports of casualties, however, passengers said they heard small explosions but the cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet.

According to the Transport Secretary, Kamau, he did not know when the airport, the busiest in East Africa, would reopen. He said airlines that wanted to take off without passengers have been allowed to do so.

Kenya Airways said it was diverting flights to Mombasa and that transit passengers were being taken to hotels.
