Police Take Over UNILAG Gate To Prevent Students Protest over Asuu Strike

Nothing less than ten police vans were stationed at the gate of the University of Lagos on Monday with a couple others sighted on campus.

Students of UNILAG began mobilizing through social media networks late last week, inviting other students to join in a protest that would likely commence at the varsity gate like the fuel subsidy protest of January 2012, held at the Gani FAwehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota.

The essence of the protest is to see that the protracted ASUU strike comes to a lasting end by virtue of the Federal Government honouring the 2009 agreement it had with university lecturers. Other important issues of their agenda includes request for the reinstatement of the Student Union Government (SUG) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and reversal of increased tuition fee at Lagos State University (LASU)
