ASUU Set to Call Off Strike; University to Resume November 18th

ASUU recently had to think about the new offer presented to them by President Jonathan which was a N220bn a year offer. A top ASUU official, however, noted that the government cannot be trusted on this but at the same time, the body has decided to give the government the benefit of the doubt.

Although ASUU members are divided over the new government offer, ASUU executives will meet this Wednesday, to decide based on vote if the 4-month old strike will be called off this week. This is as suggested by ASUU chairman, Nasir Fagge.

The government plans to allocate just 9% of the 2014 budget to education but ASUU now seems set to end the strike after government offers; that would surely boost lecturers’ take home pay and improve varsity infrastructure.
