Barcelona and Argentina Star, Lionel Messi and Father, Jorge Messi Sentenced to Prison for Tax Evasion by Spanish Court

Barcelona and Argentina star striker Lionel Messi along with his dad, Jorge have both been sentence 21-months in prison by a Spanish court for tax evasion.

The good news is, the duo won't be serving their term in a jail. According to Spanish law, any sentence under 2-years can be served under probation. Which means that Messi can still play football. However, if the footballer breaches the probation, he may likely be sent to jail. Moreso, the trial which was concluded in June has been reported that both Messi and his father have been given suspended sentences of 21 months

They duo were accused of defrauding the Spanish tax office of roughly £3.4m in unpaid taxes between 2007 and 2009. It was said that Messi and his father created several accounts in Belize and Uruguay to avoid paying tax on image rights worth £3.4m

However, in June, Messi said: "I was playing football. I had no idea about anything. I trusted my dad and my lawyers.
